When the Whitley Pump recently reviewed Picture Palace to Penny Plunge by David Cliffe, we found out that a scene from the film A Bridge too Far had been shot on Hill Street in Katesgrove.
The Historic Katesgrove Industries tour was available for the first time on 8 September 2017 during the Heritage Open Days weekend. The two hour walk started at the foot of London Street outside Reading International Solidarity Centre (RISC) and, after a loop around Katesgrove, ended outside Great Expectations, next door to RISC.
One of the more surprising views of Katesgrove is from the western side of the Kennet on Berkeley Avenue.
Katesgrove artist Robert Fitzmaurice is opening his studio for several days this month, May 2016, as part of the West Berkshire & North Hampshire Open Studios event.
Whitley Pump contributor Evelyn Williams met with Reading photographer and author Terry Allsop at the Malmaison Hotel on Station Road over coffee to talk about his life and work. Terry is well known for his two books of photographs Newtown: A Photographic Journey in Reading 1974 and Caught on Camera: Reading in the 70s.
