These planning applications may be discussed at one of the next Reading Borough Council planning applications committees.
As the Whitley Pump reported in July, the Alpine Street grit bin had a staycation this summer. The bin is now overjoyed that it and all its colleagues around Reading can stay for another winter.
Katesgrove’s VIP grit bin on Alpine Street has decided that the weather is so good that there is no need to head for the Costa del Depot this year.
Reading Borough Council (RBC) propose to save £16,000 next year by ending the provision of grit bins in key locations across the town, including at the junction of Alpine Street and Elgar Road.

The Historic Katesgrove Industries tour was available for the first time on 8 September 2017 during the Heritage Open Days weekend. The two hour walk started at the foot of London Street outside Reading International Solidarity Centre (RISC) and, after a loop around Katesgrove, ended outside Great Expectations, next door to RISC.
Katesgrove’s one and only grit bin is on the junction of Alpine Street and Elgar Road.
Reading Borough Council monitors weather forecasts from mid November to the end of March and salts all A and B class roads in the district if ice is predicted.
