Supermarkets Marks and Spencer, Morrisons and Aldi and wholesaler Bidfood are now donating their unsold produce to the Whitley Community Development Association (WCDA) at 252 Northumberland Avenue in Whitley, Reading. The food is available for free; this is not a formal food bank, so neither social services nor any charity has to refer anyone. People do not have to fill out any forms or identify themselves to take the food they can use.
Meet your Reading Borough councillors at the Whitley Labour Party Ward Surgery on Saturday 1 February at 10.30am. They will be at the Community café, Northumberland Avenue, Reading for an hour and a half.
Redlands Ward Green Party councillor Jamie Whitham will be holding a Green Party street surgery in Northumberland Avenue on Sunday 5 January at 7pm for an hour. If you would like to speak to councillor Whitham you can contact him by phone or email as shown in the poster above.
Whitley Library on Northumberland Avenue will stay open until 12 noon on Christmas Eve. It will not then re-open until Thursday 2 January at 9am when normal opening hours resume. No books are due back during the period when the library is closed.
South Reading Leisure Centre on Northumberland Avenue will be closed from 24 until 27 December, as well as 30 December and 1 January. It will open from 8am to 4pm on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 December, and from 8am to 2pm on 31 December.
The Church and Whitley neighbourhood policing team will hold Have Your Say meetings on Thursday 19 December at 1pm at the Northumberland Avenue shops near the Whitley Hub, and at 2.30pm on the same day at the Co-Op on the junction of Whitley Wood Road and Northumberland Avenue.
