Reading’s Progress Theatre, on the Mount in Redlands, has temporarily closed its doors from today, and cancelled this season’s shows, because of the coronavirus epidemic.
The theatre asks that ticket holders do not contact the box office because their volunteers are already overwhelmed with calls. They say that they will contact ticket holders to arrange refunds, unless you bought your ticket from Ticketsource, in which case Ticketsource will arrange the refunds.
The theatre intends to continue with creative and theatre workshops online. In a statement, they said:
Following the latest government advice about coronavirus, the Progress Theatre building is closed to the public from today, Wednesday 18 March and all productions for the rest of the season have been cancelled.
It’s with enormous sadness that we temporarily close our doors, but the safety of our audiences, members and visitors is of utmost importance. We apologise for the disruption and thank you for your support during this period of great uncertainty.
The Progress Theatre is a self-funding charity. They have invited donations, for which there is a button on their website, to keep them going until their triumphant return.
