Reading Abbey turf capping June 2018

The Reading Abbey Revealed Project is one of 14 regional finalists in the 2020 Civic Trust AABC [Register of Architects Accredited in Building Conservation] conservation awards. Reading Abbey re-opened on 16 June 2018 after a £3.15 million project funded by the Heritage Lottery and developer contributions received by Reading Borough Council.

There were three elements to the conservation of the abbey ruins: re-pointing the existing masonry, restoring fallen flint where possible and soft capping the tops of the walls with turf.

The Civic Trust award scheme recognises outstanding planning, architecture and design in the build environment.

National panels will review the finalists and consider them for a national or international award or commendation. The results will be known on 9 December and the awards will be presented in Manchester on 6 March 2020.

Finalists will also be considered for special awards including sustainability, community impact and engagement and the national panel special award.
