The University Medical Group (UMG), who maintain GP surgeries on Northcourt Avenue and at Whitley Villa on Christchurch Road in south Reading, are outstanding according to the English health and social care regulator, the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The CQC inspected both UMG surgeries in June 2019. They praised the surgery’s virtual diabetes clinic that had been introduced to help patients who had difficulty managing their condition. The practice had shown a 10% improvement in diabetes care during a period when the number of patients diagnosed had increased 20%.
The CQC also praised surgery governance that had ensured “high quality, patient focused care [which] had been maintained during a period of rapid increase in patient numbers and expansion into a second practice site.”
The CQC said that patients received effective care and treatment, and the practice kept their patients safe and protected them from avoidable harm, adding:
Patient feedback was consistently positive and the practice took account of feedback in the way services were provided.
The CQC also suggested a few areas of improvement including how the practice managed medicine fridges and how they reviewed the outcomes of patients with long-term mental health problems.
