The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) has invited 12-16 year olds to Whitley Wood Fire Station on Wednesday 13 June at 7.30pm to try out the young firefighters scheme.

RBFRS explain that young firefighters is a cadet scheme and the next intake will be in September this year. The programme runs for 36 weeks from September to July during term times and lasts for one academic year:

Working as a team, young firefighters take part in practical and theoretical fire service activities, including hose drills, breathing apparatus procedures and fire safety awareness sessions. The scheme also teaches young people essential life skills such as self-discipline, confidence and leadership.

Young people attending the have-a-go event, which lasts an hour, must be accompanied by an adult and booking is essential. There is another have-a-go event at Maidenhead fire station on Thursday 21 June at 7.30pm.

You can get more details from the website or by emailing [email protected].
