Reading Borough Council civic offices

An update on the controversial university and hospital area parking study will be presented to the traffic management sub-committee of Reading Borough Council on Wednesday 14 September.

Proposals presented to the June 2016 sub-committee proved controversial and were put on hold. The meeting this week will include discussion of a new scheme which only covers the area east of Alexandra Road. In particular it will create a zone where ‘gateway signs’ are displayed at the borders because:

As reported through various reports to the traffic management sub-committee, those narrow roads where the standard marked bay residents parking scheme could not apply on both sides were Foxhill Road, Cardigan Road, Cardigan Gardens, Donnington Road, Blenheim Road, Hatherley Road, Donnington Gardens and Blenheim Gardens.

Parking changes to the area to the west, which included Kendrick Road are still on hold until the results of the eastern scheme are known, then:

If no objections are received, the new proposals detailed in this report, and the suspended proposals detailed in the June 2016 traffic management sub-committee report will proceed to implementation early in the new year.
